A national park in the United Dtates that I would really like to visit is Yellowstone National Park. When I was young I remember my parents telling me about their visit there and I have wanted to see it ever since.
It is also a very historic place. It was the first national park in the United States and located in Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho!
Yellowstone has a long history. The human history of this park started more then 11,000 thousand years ago! This area has been the home to many Native Americans up until the very recent past. About 200 hundred years ago the first European people came to the park. In 1872 Yellowstone was established as the first National Park in the United States. This started a new concept of preserving for future generations in our country.
Along with a great history Yellowstone is home to many different things. Old Faithful, the gyser that would faithfully erupt every hour at the same time, is located in Yellowstone. There are many other geysers in this park too. Yellowstone has a lot of wildlife. It is home to Grizzley bears, wolves, bison, elk, and many other animals.
In Costa Rica you can visit the Rincón de la Vieja National Park. Like Yellowstone you can see a lot of wildlife there but the kinds of wildlife are a little different there. At Ricón you can see monkeys, jaguars, tapirs, and numerous birds and reptiles. In Chile you can visit Torres Del Paine National Park. Like Yellowstone Torres Del Paine's history goes back a long time. Their famous peaks formed millions of years ago. Torres has a lot of wildlife like Yellowstone but the types of wildlife are a bit different also.
There are many great National Parks all around the world! They are a great place to visit!

Costa Rica
Costa Rica is a very diverse society. It's many traditions and customs come from the many different people that have settled there from around the world.
The traditions in Costa Rica are a mix of old and new. There are old cultural forces and new ones that influence people especially the younger generation. Ticos, a native of Costa Rica, still keep their old traditions but they are also being inspired by the American influence. Only 1% of the people in Costa Rica are considered Indian. Most of the people are white. Costa Ricans are very well educated. there literacy rate is 96%, which is different from the countries surrounding them.
Even as Ticos are influenced by American culture their traditions are mainly centered around the family. The unit of a family is very strong in Costa Rica. Some of the things families do are weddings, funerals, baptisms, and engagement parties. Going to college or gaining independence is very rare in Costa Ricans families. Most people live at home until they are married. Also, gender plays a big part on traditions. Men and women are supposed to act differently then each other and respect each others roles.
There are also many religious traditions in Costa Rica. The main religion in Costa Rica is Catholicism. Some traditions are Easter Week and Christmas week.
American culture and Costa Rican culture have some similarities. I think gender plays a huge part in our American culture. It strives to create competition between men and women in the workplace. We also have many religious cultures like Easter and Christmas. In our culture we also have Thanksgiving. High education also plays into bothe of our cultures. Getting a good education is important in both societies.
The country of Costa Rica may have similarities to it's neighboring countries and America but it has some unique traditions and culture!
